The Fallen — Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Boss

Last updated: August 2026

The Fallen is the first named monster of 1499 Paris. Official text calls him a mysterious "monster" terrorizing the people, the first threat Rose meets in the sewers. Ray Chase voices him. In the demo he guards a huge gate into the catacombs, which is why the catacombs walkthrough treats the fight as a door, not a side bet.

What he actually does

Hands-on reports agree on three tools: a holy-cross boomerang, a screen-wide whip, and a brutally fast beast leap. He is built like a Mr. Hyde figure, large enough that your first instinct is to back off the entire arena. That instinct gets you clipped. Slide under the cross, backdash the whip, and treat the leap as the punish window. A full pattern card lives in how to beat The Fallen.

He is also a movement exam for the rest of the game. If you cannot slide and backdash on command, castle bosses will not be readable. Spend XP on the Paris streets loop until attack and defense tick up. The designers want that grind. It is not a failure state.

Rewards that change the map

Sealing The Fallen grants the Holy Cross Arcana and the Arcana Whip traversal line he was using against you. That whip is how you leave the sewers in three dimensions. It is also how later Paris architecture becomes a jungle gym. If you skip this fight, you skip the game.

Holy Cross immediately grows a Works of Mercy list. Complete it. Double throw and MP-on-catch Blessings are the difference between a toy and a kit. Log them in the Arcana tracker before you climb toward Joan.
