Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Catacombs Map

Last updated: August 2026

The catacombs are Paris inverted: skull halls, sewers, and the first boss door. Official commentary calls them skull-lined. GameSpot places The Fallen at a gate into this biome. Use the catacombs walkthrough for route order and this page for what the space is.

Reading an underground Metroidvania

Expect false floors, candle save rooms, and clues that live in the menu. The Guardian praised riddles and sketched maps over quest markers. If you are lost, you are playing it correctly. Whip rings become useful only after The Fallen, so a dead-end on the first pass is probably a second-pass highway.

Hazards are content. Official feature bullets mention traps and puzzles, not just enemy density. Move like the beginner tips page tells you to: slide first, greed second. Crypt Key makes chests a heal fountain down here, which is how you survive a wrong turn into spikes.

Exits

The intended exit is vertical, back toward the city and the rooftops. If you still cannot leave after the boss, you have not used the Arcana Whip. That is a player problem, not a missing ladder. Mark this biome on the boss checklist once The Fallen is a card, then get into the light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the catacombs optional?

Not on the preview path. They hold The Fallen and the whip that unlocks the rest of Paris.

Is Medusa in the catacombs?

Unconfirmed. At least one previewer earned her Arcana, but Konami has not published her room.
