How to Beat The Fallen in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse
Last updated: August 2026
The Fallen is the first wall. He guards the catacombs gate, hits like a mid-game boss, and exists to make sure you learned slide and backdash on the Paris streets. If you want the lore sheet, use the boss page. This guide is the attempt plan.

See the fight in preview footage
The video below is IGN's first preview. It is not a silent no-hit, but it is real gameplay context for the Hyde-like brute, the whip, and why the encounter is the demo's skill check.
Pattern rules
Three attacks matter. The holy-cross boomerang wants a slide, not a jump. The screen-wide whip wants a backdash or a jump that you already committed to before the swing started. The leap wants you to stop attacking. Punish landings with two or three melee hits, not a full sword poem. Cursed Flame is safe during his recoveries if you have mana. Do not throw it into his approach.
If you die, do not mash Continue into the same underleveled file. Clear a street loop. Attack and defense rise with XP. Open chests if you have Crypt Key. That is the intended tax, described by multiple outlets, not a player superstition.
What you should walk out with
A Holy Cross card, an Arcana Whip, and a respect for the dodge button. Immediately test the whip in the same room. Then leave through the catacombs. If the cross's Works of Mercy are visible, start them before Joan. Tick the fight in the boss checklist.
