Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

How to Unlock Arcana in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Last updated: August 2026

Arcana are not shop skills. You unlock a card by beating a boss, then you grow it by completing three Works of Mercy and spending Blessings. The systems bible is the Arcana page. This is the checklist version.

The announcement of a new Belmont toolkit

Konami's announcement trailer is the tone poem: Rose, the curse, the castle. It does not show a menu, but it is the official statement that this sequel is about a new hunter's tools. Watch it, then follow the mechanical steps under the video.

Step-by-step unlocks

  1. Play until a named boss arena. The Fallen is first on the preview path.
  2. Win. The boss is sealed into a tarot card.
  3. Open the card. Note the three Works of Mercy.
  4. Do them in the overworld — kills with the spell, related weapon hunts, specific actions.
  5. Spend the Blessing on a modifier you will actually use.

Known early cards: Cursed Flame (starting fireball), Holy Cross plus Arcana Whip from The Fallen, ground explosion from Joan, petrify beam from Medusa. Gamescom footage suggested 15 or more by the end. Track them so you do not lose a Blessing in the menu noise — that is what the Arcana tracker is for.

If a door will not open, you are probably missing a special action, not a plot flag. Go back to the boss hub and see whose card you skipped. Sealing is how this Metroidvania hides keys in plain sight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I miss an Arcana forever?

Bosses remain on the map in a Metroidvania. You can return. Whether a Blessing choice is permanent is not yet documented.

Do mini-bosses grant cards?

Konami has only promised that defeated bosses become Arcana. Elite trash is unconfirmed.
