Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Paris Streets Walkthrough

Last updated: August 2026

Paris, 1499, is the first map in the Belmont's Curse walkthrough. A bishop's letter pulls Trevor Belmont down the Seine with his daughter. The moon is blood red, the streets are on fire, and monsters bleed out of a castle that should not be sitting in the heart of France. Trevor is 43 and already moving like a coach. Rose Belmont takes the Vampire Killer and the first real work.

Arrival and the first block of streets

The demo opens with a short onboarding: walk, jump, slide, wall jump, and a starting melee weapon. Rose does not begin as a whip-only character. Previewers describe a long sword or dagger in the first minutes, with the whip becoming both a weapon and a grappling line after the first major boss. If you want the button map now, jump to the Castlevania: Belmont's Curse controls page — Circle/B dodge, double-tap backflip, R2 Arcana Whip once it unlocks, Triangle/Y for spells, L1 heal.

The streets are not a hallway. Wine-red interiors sit next to earthy alleys, then sudden green courtyards. Eurogamer and The Guardian both noted that the first hour already swaps palettes hard, so if a courtyard looks "too bright for Castlevania," you are still in the right game. Search every balcony. Ability gates are already live: holds for the later whip, locked drawbridges, and ghost NPCs who drop boss riddles into your menu.

Combat rules for the opening hour

Rose's early kit is a slide to pass projectiles, a back step to reset, and a forward dash that can put you behind a ghoul for a punish. Do not treat this like a 1986 whip game where you stand still and time the leather. Evil Empire's animation work is closer to Dead Cells movement without the downhill slam. You can already attack up, forward, and down. Mana returns from kills, so you should be spending your first fireball Arcana instead of hoarding it. The Arcana system starts with Cursed Flame; one early Work of Mercy is simply "kill 20 enemies with the spell."

Healing is generous by classic Castlevania standards. You start with three potions and can stack more. That is intentional. Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi told previewers the studio wanted a welcoming on-ramp, then a hard first boss. Spend flasks to learn enemy tells. You will farm the same street packs again after you bounce off The Fallen anyway.

The gate, the ghost, and the sewer drop

A large sealed chamber sits over the catacombs entrance. A ghost warns you about a monster later named The Fallen. The clue is stored in the menu so you can leave, upgrade, and return. GameSpot's three-hour session treated this as the first true skill check: a Hyde-like brute with a holy-cross boomerang, a screen-wide whip, and a fast leap. If you are underleveled, clear the street loops. XP actually raises attack and defense here, which is the retry loop the designers want.

Before you drop into the catacombs chapter, grab any chest you can see. The Crypt Key relic, found in the preview, fully restores health and mana when a chest opens. That single relic changes how you route the streets: every extra chest is a free flask. Slot it in the relic loadout builder and keep moving toward the sewers.

What not to miss on a first pass

  • Save rooms and fast-travel nodes — the map auto-fills like Symphony of the Night.
  • Whip holds on high architecture; you will return with the Arcana Whip after The Fallen.
  • The first tarot challenges. Completing a Work of Mercy is worth more than a random pickup.
  • Side ledges with relics. Three slots means your build starts now, not in the castle.

When the gate opens, continue into the catacombs map. The streets remain a hub. You will come back after Joan of Arc with better movement and a second Arcana. That is the Metroidvania contract, and Paris is designed to be rewalked, not skipped.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Rose start with the Vampire Killer as her only weapon?

No. She uses multiple melee types from the opening, and the whip becomes a traversal-and-combat hybrid after the first major boss.

Can I ignore the street enemies and run to the boss?

You can, but XP raises attack and defense. Previewers who farmed a loop before The Fallen had a much cleaner fight.
