Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse at Gamescom 2026

Last updated: August 2026

Gamescom 2026 in Cologne (26–30 August) was the first time the public could play Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. Japanese press notes called it the world's first hands-on opportunity ahead of the 15 October launch. The week also brought Konami's English voice-cast trailer, an IGN studio conversation, a PCGamesN interview with Konami and Evil Empire, and a VGC hour that called the slice relatively safe but still exciting. PAX West in Seattle follows on 4–7 September.

IGN's booth conversation

The clip below is IGN's Gamescom studio segment "Whip It Good." It is a post-hands-on talk, not a silent no-hit. Use it as tone: a 2D Castlevania with its own booth in 2026, a conversation with the sealed boss after the tarot swallows him, and a reminder that the file is still a prequel to later Belmonts. Then read the written notes under the video.

What the Gamescom hour actually contained

VGC started at the opening of the campaign: Rose has wall jump, slide, dodge, a dagger, and her first Arcana. The Vampire Killer trapeze is not the first-minute toy. Foreground geometry uses black comic-style outlines on a 2.5D mesh designed to read as flat 2D. The whip later swings onto grapple hooks and yanks Rose into enemies. That matches the summer three-hour reports, compressed into a show-floor slice.

PCGamesN sat down with producer Tsutomu Taniguchi, Evil Empire marketing director Bérenger Dupré, and lead level designer Sandro Bordier. Dupré said the studio felt honored by how much trust Konami put in the vision, and that "crazy ideas" were approved instead of being sanded down. Bordier named Symphony of the Night as the landmark reference, Super Castlevania IV's omnidirectional brandish whip as the modern trapeze ancestor, and Aria of Sorrow plus Circle of the Moon as the reason the tarot/spell layer exists — "which for us really characterizes Rose." That is the design sentence behind the Arcana system and the whip grapple.

What to do with this before 15 October

  • If you can reach PAX West, treat it as a second public booth, not a new build with unpublished systems.
  • Do not expect a review score from a show-floor hour. Use the preview synthesis.
  • Plan a day-one route with the walkthrough and the how to play guide.
  • Taniguchi has called Belmont's Curse the beginning of numerous new Castlevania products. That is a publisher line, not a DLC calendar.
